Sacramento County deputies are looking into a gun violence incident that erupted on the evening of April 18 at the Howe Community Park area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.
How It Started
Sacramento County law enforcement were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park shortly before half past six in the evening after obtaining information of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Shortly after, another report was received concerning a potential altercation occurring inside the park.
A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had assembled at the park in an unauthorized manner.
The Shooting Itself
Deputies set about removing people from the park by encircling the gathering and making announcements commanding the assembled crowd to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were fired. Gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly started locating gunshot victims.
The Shooting Victims
Ultimately, four gunshot victims were found to have been shot. The four individuals — including a female and three males each reported to be in their twenties — were brought to area medical facilities. Medical personnel reported that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one suffered minor injuries. In a positive development, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department provided support more info and provided medical assistance those with gunshot wounds before they were taken to the hospital.
The Investigation
The center of the incident seemed to have taken place on Cottage Way near the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators found additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Round impacts were identified in the wrought iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot store. The store itself was temporarily locked down during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.
Detainees in Solano County
Reports confirmed via scanner audio revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four people were held for questioning. Sacramento law enforcement were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video that was reviewed confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
